FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) process Fused Deposition Manufacturing (FDM) process was successfully developed by American scholar Scott Crump in 1988.The material of FDM is generally thermoplastic material, such as wax, ABS, nylon, etc.. The material is supplied in the form of filament. The material is heated and melted inside the nozzle. The nozzle moves along the part's cross-sectional profile and filling trajectory while extruding the melted material, which rapidly solidifies and coagulates with the surrounding material.

Advantages of FDM process fused deposition manufacturing: (1) Low maintenance cost and safe system operation due to the simple construction principle and operation of the hot melt extrusion head system. (2) Forming speed, the product produced by fused deposition method, without the need for SLA in the scraper re-processing this process. (3)The prototype of parts formed by wax can be directly used for fusion casting. (4) Parts of any degree of complexity can be molded, often used to mold parts with very complex cavities, holes, etc. (5) No chemical changes in the raw material during the molding process, the warpage of the parts is small. (6) High utilization rate of raw materials and long material life. (7) Simple support removal, no chemical cleaning, easy separation.
